New Artist at The Blackbird : Lonnie L. Spikes Jr.

Artist Statement:

Before language was spoken or written, art was the vehicle to "speak" on ideas, thoughts, and feelings. I don't consider myself a very good speaker, however, I have a lot to say and share.

I make are based on whatever I am seeing or feeling at any particular moment. My works are what I consider "snapshots" of my thoughts and varied in the use of colors and intensity. Eclectic and prolific, there is a lot to say, do, and share. I prefer both the landscape and surrealistic pieces that produce both stunning and "in your face" type of effects. I have included both styles.

My medium is watercolor and oils. I love working with its fluidity and most of the time, unpredictable but guarded way it goes down on paper or canvas. I prefer both the landscape and surrealistic pieces that produce both stunning and "in your face" type of effects. I have included both styles.

I hope my pieces speak to you...

Thank you,

LONNIE L. SPIKES JR.

ALL LOCAL ALL WEEK!

FRIDAY'S LOCAL FEATURE AT THE BLACKBIRD: Klickikat Canyon & Columbia Gorge Winery! Local & Organic!

They are a small, local winery located in the eastern Columbia River Gorge. All of their grapes are grown in this country and all of their wines are processed organically without any sugars or sulfites. To emphasize the flavors of the land they ferment their wines on their own yeasts, and employ eco-dynamic agriculture. Their Columbia Gorge wines are bought from farmers on the Southern slopes of Underwood Mountain and their Klickikat Canyon wines are 100% organic from vineyard to bottle; "where the grapes speak for themselves".

Pictured: We carry Klickikat's Organic Syrah, Organic Ruby Red, and Columbia Gorge Caves des Millefleurs Rooster Red Wine. Also pictured are some more wonderful creations by Wendy Bayer of All Things Splendid!

Feel Better

The holidays have ended phew. What a relief, yet there is something missing, a void is left where that enormous ball of stress was living for the past 2 months. If only there was a way to (inexpensively) fix the post holiday rush hangover... oh wait it's WINE! Wine and looking at pretty things for ourselves, NOT for Aunt June who never likes anything you give her, or the in-laws who have everything known to man. Pretty sparkling yummy smelling things JUST FOR YOU:) Why do we need this .... because it makes us feel good!
